Personal thoughts regarding business and game dev
So I don't normally share thoughts like this, but this has been on my mind for a very long time. I see people constantly say stuff like "goal of a business is to make money". I'd like to disagree with that statement, as controversial as it sounds.
I took some online classes regarding entrepreneurship and what I was taught was the following: goal of a business is to make a product that people need. Maybe it's different in the US but this is what I was taught here in Finland. I don't claim to know how to run business, but I stand behind this belief. You don't need to be an asshole towards your customers and staff in order to make profit. Just make a good product that people need/want and rest solves itself.

Now let's get to game development, as this is what I personally do. I want to create some sort of business in the future, but I doubt it would be a game studio, just because I know how uncertain and competitive the industry is right now. But I do dream about it, simply because I want to prove everyone wrong. You can be ethical and still run a business. You don't need to use predatory tactics in order to gain money, just make a good game, market it well, and so on. Listen to your players, use that feedback to deliver better games.
Again, I don't claim to know how to run a business, but I have my own vision how it should be done. I hate following the crowd. It brings nothing but trouble.
Feels good to share my thoughts, although they might seem weird to some.
Maybe I should go to sleep... It's almost 3 am
